Arthur Clarke Diversity Lecture

Date/Time
4/23/23, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Seward Memorial Library

Sunday, April 23 at 2:00 PM, we kick off National Library Week with an Arthur Clark Diversity speaker, Sharon Ishii-Jordan.

Sharon will be sharing “Asian Americans in Nebraska: How Society Creates Perpetual Foreigners”. Asian Americans have helped to shape Nebraska’s history for over 140 years, yet they remain invisible, are considered intrusive, or appear exotic to Nebraskans. A specific racial group will have challenges when they continue to be regarded as outsiders. Understanding the interplay of world events, legislation, and society’s interpretations can create a more inclusive future in Nebraska for the success of its economy, education, and humanistic comportment.

Sharon Ishii-Jordan, Ph.D., is Professor Emerita of Education at Creighton University
