The Big Sleep is a 1939 hard-boiled detective novel. This is Raymond Chandler's first novel to feature detective Philip Marlowe, and is considered to be one of the Chandler's greatest works. Time Magazine included this title in its list of 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present.
