Volunteer FAQs

Volunteers help us keep the library going. We always need help with paper cutting, paper shredding, help with programs and crafts, preparing puzzles, moving books, cleaning, and other projects as they pop up.

We accept volunteers that are 14 and older. On a case-by-case basis we may accept younger volunteers.

We do not accept court mandated service hours.

Yes!* You may use the hours you volunteered at the library for your service hours.

*We are not permitted to take court mandated service hours.

Typically our volunteers serve one hour per week as their schedules allow. We accept more hours if you are willing and as projects are available.

Duration of volunteer service is flexible!

We need volunteers throughout the year!

*Initially we will need you to meet with our volunteer coordinator.

I have read and understand the following Library Board policy:

Confidentiality of Library Records

State law stipulates confidentiality of library records, i.e. Law 84-712.05, "Records which may be withheld from the public" states that "The following records, unless publicly disclosed in an open court, open administrative proceeding or open meeting or disclosed by a public entity pursuant to its duties, may be withheld from the public by the lawful custodian of the records . . . (10) Records or portions of records kept by a publicly funded library which, when examined with or without other records, revealed the identity of any library patron using the library's materials.”

I realize that I am not free to touch, intervene, investigate or change anything while I am volunteering without specific approval by a staff member. I also realize that, although I am donating valuable time, I am not entitled to the same responsibilities assigned to library staff. Consequences of ignoring these guidelines could include release from the library volunteer schedule.
