Immigration: A Personal Perspective with Rebecca Gonzales
Join us on October 5 at 2:00 PM for a unique perspective on immigration.
Nebraskan's take pride in their immigrant history, and Rebecca Gonzales is no exception. Rebecca will discuss immigration, past and present, from her experiences both as a first-generation daughter of immigrants and as a long time Nebraska rural resident.
She will look at the immigrant experience, who immigrants are and Nebraska's immigrant history through her own family's experiences.
About Rebecca
Rebecca received a BA with Honors in History with a minor in Biology from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Davis, in 1988. She was admitted to the California Bar that same year.
Rebecca was a legislative aide before beginning practice as an attorney in Sacramento. Combining her experience in the legislature and law, she moved to the California Senate Office of Research where, as Senior Consultant on Civil Law, she provided research and policy development to senators in the areas of civil, family and juvenile law and the judiciary.
She moved back to Nebraska, her husband’s home state, and was Director of Institutional Research and then Vice President of Research and Technology at Doane College. She worked at Nebraska Appleseed for over 10 years.
A first-generation Latina from Waukegan, Illinois, Rebecca was a crew chief on one and two engine jets in the US Air Force, supervised photo processing at a reconnaissance unit in the Nebraska Air National Guard and is a Vietnam Era Veteran. She has served on the Board of El Centro de las Americas and is the Vice-President of the Lincoln Branch of the NAACP. She lives in Wilber, Nebraska.
