Ready, Set, Read! Summer Reading Challenges Kick Off June 1st!

Summer is finally here, which means it’s time for one of our favorite traditions at Seward Memorial Library: The Summer Reading Challenge!
From June 1st through July 31st, we are inviting readers of all ages—from infants to adults—to grab a punch card, log their books read, and help us celebrate the joy of reading. Whether you are aiming to win spectacular prize baskets, play for treats, or help us settle a legendary local rivalry, every single page counts.
Here is everything you need to know about this year's challenges:
Adult Summer Reading Challenge: Reclaim the Trophy – Seward vs. York
The rivalry is back! After a tough loss to York last year, we are ready to turn the page and bring the trophy back home to Seward. We aren’t just looking for a simple win this time—we are looking for a Total Knockout! Every book you read brings us one step closer to victory. The battle officially begins June 1st!
How You Can Help Us Defeat York:
Log your reads: Stop by the library front desk to grab your official punch card and keep track of every book you finish.
Enter to win: For every 5 books you complete, you will earn a submission into one of our exciting summer prize basket drawings.
What counts: Every book borrowed from the library or read via Libby counts! This includes fiction, nonfiction, audiobooks, and YA titles.
Race to the finish: Keep those pages turning! Every book counts until the final whistle blows on July 31st at 5:00 PM.
Want to double your speed? In honor of the USA's 250th celebration, any book featuring the words "Red", "White", or "Blue" on the front or back cover earns you double points! Let’s show York what Seward is made of. Grab your next read and let’s get started!
Kids Summer Reading Challenge (Infancy – 4th Grade)
We want to see how much our youngest readers can achieve this summer! Children from infancy through fourth grade can participate by picking up a special punch card at the library.
How it works: For every day a child reads something from the library (or has a book read to them!), they can bring their card in to get a punch and pick up a piece of candy!
The Grand Prize: Each punch card has seven punches. Once a card is fully completed, bring it back to the library to play a fun game of Plinko for a special prize!
Teen Summer Reading Challenge (5th – 12th Grade)
Students entering 5th through 12th grade are invited to step up to the plate and join the teen challenge.
How it works: Pick up your teen punch card at the library. For every book you read, you will receive a punch on your card.
Plinko & Prizes: Just like the kids' challenge, teens will get to play Plinko with each completed punch card. Plus, the more you read, the more entry opportunities you will get for our exclusive teen prize drawings!
Go For Double: Looking to rack up punches faster? Read books with the words "Red", "White", or "Blue" on the front or back cover to earn double punches on your card!
Don't Miss the Deadline!
The summer reading challenges will be in full swing from June 1st to July 31st. Be sure to stop by the library soon to join the fun and get your cards tracking before the 5:00 PM deadline on July 31st.
Keep track of your tallies, let us know how many books you've read, and let's bring that trophy home to Seward!
